Embracing a Fresh Start as a Habitat Homeowner

2021%20(4).jpg

After some major life changes, including divorce and leaving a home of decades, Kisha decided it was time to start a new chapter and buy a place of her own.

She began researching the housing market, only to discover that inflation and escalating mortgage rates had put an "affordable" home entirely out of reach. She contacted the Cherokee Tribe, of which she is a member, who referred her to Green Country Habitat as a good avenue for down payment assistance and a high-quality home at a rate she could afford.

With guidance from our financial literacy training, Kisha was able to pay off debt, increase her credit scores, and save the 1% down payment she needed to purchase a Habitat home.

She's closing this week on a brand new, energy-efficient, 3 bed/2 bath home, and we couldn't be happier for her. Congratulations Kisha!

Hitting the Halfway Mark on our North Tulsa Initiative

2021%20(9).jpg

Approaching the midpoint of our five-year North Tulsa Initiative, we've made significant progress in building affordable homes. Since March 2021, we've completed 114 homes, with 35 more under construction. We're on track to exceed our goal in the next two years.

Although we've made significant strides in addressing the affordable housing gap in North Tulsa, there's more work ahead and your support is crucial for the continued success of this initiative. Let's keep building homes and creating positive change together!

Did you know the craftsman behind our durable HVAC cages is also a talented sculptor?

Meet Randy Vaughn, owner of Customs by Vaughn. Randy started fabricating metal as a teen, specializing in the restoration of classic cars. Over time, he has diversified his expertise to include ornate gates and wrought iron fencing, catering to unique custom projects.

His craftsmanship graces many of our North Tulsa Initiative developments, and his artwork can be seen at prominent locations such as the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, the Warr Acres Library, and the Tulsa Fire Safety Training Center.

Special Guest Visits the Tuesday Morning Miracle Workers

Julie Chin of KJRH Channel 2 recently joined us at the Tulsa shop to meet the Tuesday Morning Miracle Workers. Bob Sanborn, a founding member, shared the group's history, and GCHFH CEO Cameron Walker praised their accomplishments.

Established in 1993, this all-volunteer group aids Green Country Habitat by crafting all-wood cabinets for the ReStore, framing walls for future builds, and completing two homes annually. We're grateful for the Tuesday Morning Miracle Workers – we couldn't do all that we do without them!
