On January 12th, we joined McGee Enterprises and our sister company, Boomtown Development Co, to ceremonially break ground on Black Wall Street Square.
Due to inclement weather, the groundbreaking was held indoors at Crossover Community Center, but the cold temperatures did not dampen the atmosphere of the day.
Tulsa Mayor GT Bynum spoke before the large crowd and had high praise for the development: "This project is the model for what Tulsa is going to have to do - for at least the next decade - to get everybody in Tulsa a home who wants one. And that is an all-encompassing partnership...It’s a whole community rallying around a worthy project and having a great vision like Terry (McGee) had.”
We're so grateful for all the support from the community and to all the partners who made this project possible. Construction on Black Wall Street Square is set to begin in February, with expected completion in Spring 2025.
Please join us in welcoming Rob Gardenhire as Green Country Habitat for Humanity's new Vice President of Development!
Rob is stepping into this role with extensive experience. He's played an integral role in several transformational civic projects including the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits' $10.5M capital campaign, the Tulsa Drillers 2010 move to ONEOK Field in downtown Tulsa, and led the fundraising efforts for the USA BMX headquarters in the historic Greenwood District of Tulsa.
He also shares our commitment to making the dream of homeownership a reality for more Oklahomans: “I'm excited to help provide individuals and families with the opportunity to thrive, to feel safe and secure, and to have a place they can truly call home. Hopefully, my passion will translate to raise awareness, generate support, and encourage others to help GCHFH create positive change in our communities through our initiatives to build more equitable and affordable housing in Green Country.”
