Get Ready to Boogie
Rock the House: Studio 918 Has Arrived
This Saturday, May 9, Green Country Habitat is turning up the lights and the music for Tulsa’s biggest disco party since the 1970s.
This is our only major fundraising event of the year, and we’re going all in on disco dancing, music, and outfits that sparkle—all to support our mission of building affordable homes right here in our community.
We’re expecting a sold-out crowd and can’t wait to celebrate with our supporters, homeowners, and Tulsa’s leading organizations. Can’t make it? You can still be part of the night—make a donation using the link below and help us keep the groove going for affordable housing.
In 2005, Julius moved to Tulsa with his mother from Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina. Years later, after moving out on his own, stability remained just out of reach.
“It’s just been apartment hopping,” Julius said.
Now a manager at FedEx, Julius built a steady career—but homeownership still felt like the next step. After recalling time spent volunteering with a church to help build Habitat homes, he decided to explore the program with his partner, Candace.
Once they learned they qualified, their competitive side kicked in.
“My experience with the program was that it went really fast,” Julius said. “They told us about the fastest people to do it, and I guess, within us, we tried to beat that.”
Julius completed the Homebuyer Program in less than two months and he and Candace are now settling into a place of their own. Julius is looking forward to making the living room a space to relax and unwind, while Candace is excited about the everyday comforts of home—especially having their own washer and dryer.
For Julius, the advice to others is simple: “You never know what could happen,” he said. “You could always get something even better than what you thought it was. So just try.”
Congratulations, Julius and Candace on your step into homeownership. Special thanks to MidFirst Bank for providing an affordable mortgage.
Earth Day May Be Over, But Your ReStore Donations Can Still Make a Difference
We received more than a hundred donations to our ReStores during our Earth Day celebration in April—significantly reducing landfill waste while helping fund affordable housing in our community.
We hope you had a chance to take part in the celebration, but if you didn’t, now is a great time to make your ReStore donation. Whether you’re finishing your spring cleaning, moving your kid out of their college dorm, or just clearing out your home, schedule a donation pick up or bring your gently used items to one of our ReStores.
Every donation you make creates a lasting difference for the environment and hardworking families dreaming of homeownership.
On July 11, the walls for 10 new Habitat homes will be raised in North Tulsa’s Wilshire Trails neighborhood for the 2026 Clark Howard Blitz Build kick-off.
This one-day wall raising event will be Green Country Habitat’s largest ever Blitz Build and will also feature our first ever two-story single-family homes—reshaping this neighborhood near 33rd Street North and Peoria.
This will mark the 16th year that national consumer expert Clark Howard has taken part in the Blitz Build event. Since his involvement, this event has grown from seeing the construction of a couple of homes at a time to the record breaking 10 homes we’ll be raising in July. This year’s Blitz Build will also mark the completion of our North Tulsa Initiative which kicked of 2021 with a goal of building 250 affordable homes in North Tulsa.
Thank you to our generous sponsors of the 2026 Clark Howard Blitz Build: ONE Gas, ONEOK, Tuesday Morning Miracle Workers, Clark Howard, The Swindler Family, PSO, Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, Attic Storage, Williams, Ameristar | ASSA ABLOY, and Chase, and T.D. Williams.
