From Rental Life to Habitat Homeownership: One 25-year-old’s Leap of Faith |
At just 25 years old, Morgan has already achieved an enormous milestone—becoming the first homeowner in her family.
A single mom to a bright five-year-old daughter, Morgan works as a receptionist at a local plumbing company. Her motivation to buy a home was simple: “My daughter. Just wanting to be financially independent and set her up for generational wealth.”
Growing up, Morgan’s family moved often, between rentals and staying with relatives. Now, she’s rewriting that story. “As a child, it was a really hard home life... but now I’m here, and it ends with me.”
She first learned about Green Country Habitat through a support coordinator at CAP Tulsa. After being at her job for a year, she applied—and was surprised by the process.“The classes were really easy. They were very helpful, very informative. I feel like I actually learned! I enjoyed it, honestly. My daughter enjoyed it too because she got to have candy!”
Now, Morgan and her daughter are settling into their new home, dreaming of swing sets, garden beds, and family holidays.“Homeownership means independence, perseverance, and a sense of community. It means a lot of things to me. I’m just really glad that I could do it.”
What advice would she give to others considering the Habitat program? “Just do it. Take the jump. Put the faith in yourself, and it’ll work out.”
Congratulation to Morgan on her huge accomplishment, and special thank you to American Bank of Oklahoma for providing her affordable mortgage.

Behind Every Habitat Home is a Community of Support |
When a Habitat homeowner receives the keys to their new home, they’re stepping into something more than a house...they’re stepping into a community that cares. That’s why every new homeowner is welcomed with thoughtful gifts from local partners who want them to feel seen, supported, and celebrated:
-
A handmade quilt lovingly stitched by the Green Country Quilters Guild, wrapping each family in warmth and care.
-
A front garden installed by the Tulsa Master Gardeners, complete with plant information and a new garden hose so homeowners can keep it thriving.
-
A handcrafted mosaic stepping stone from Tulsa Stained Glass, adding a creative, personal touch to their new yard.
-
A grocery voucher from Food on the Move, so their first meal in their new home is fresh, healthy, and ready to share.
- A welcome board from Board & Brush to help transform their house into a home.
These aren’t just thoughtful gifts; they’re symbols of support from the Tulsa community.

Making Affordable Homeownership Possible Through Down Payment Assistance |
For many families, the biggest hurdle to homeownership is coming up with the large down payment required to close. That's where Green Country Habitat's program makes a huge difference.
Habitat homebuyers can receive down payment assistance of up to $50,000, along with a low-interest mortgage through one of our lending partners. This crucial support helps reduce the upfront costs that often hold families back from buying their first home. It's a hand UP, not a handout.
By combining affordable mortgage rates with down payment assistance, we make homeownership a reality within reach. It's about removing barriers and opening doors to stability, independence, and a place to build a future.
