Building a Sustainable Dream Home with Rewiring America

Rewiring%20America.jpg

Ali, who works in recycling, values being a good steward of natural resources. It was fitting that her new Habitat home became our first local partnership with Rewiring America.

Ali’s home features the energy-efficient appliances and construction included with of all our houses, along with special additions: a top-of-the-line electric water heater and HVAC unit from Rewiring America.

Reflecting on her journey, Ali said, "My biggest challenge was mostly financial, trying to get my credit up to be able to make the leap and own my own home. I felt stuck in that rental cycle, where the rent keeps getting higher and saving for a down payment becomes the main barrier."

She added, "I'm finally in a place where I can do it for myself, and I'm so excited about being able to have my own space. I don't have to worry about being temporary, or having a landlord who dictates what I can or can't do."

Her advice to others: "I would say to just apply. I wasn't sure that I would qualify...my advice is to go for it!"

Dedicating 6 New Homes with a "Blitz Build" Celebration

On Saturday September 21st, we wrapped up Blitz Build 2024 by dedicating six completed new homes in North Tulsa.

It was a wonderful celebration with co-host Clark Howard, sponsors Ameristar, First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa, Harvard Avenue Christian Church, ONE Gas, ONEOK, the Tuesday Morning Miracle Workers, volunteers, and homeowners.

This annual multi-house wall-raising event is one of our favorites. It’s always incredible to see these beautiful homes come together so quickly, and we’re already looking forward to doing it again next spring!

September was a busy month! In addition to Clark Howard’s Blitz Build, we also brought back Women Build after a six-year hiatus.

We’re incredibly grateful to the sponsor teams that made this wall-raising day truly amazing: Gateway First Bank, Milo’s Tea Company, ONE Gas, BancFirst, Manhattan Construction, Helmerich & Payne, Jess L. And Miriam B. Stevens Foundation, American Bank of Oklahoma, and the National Association of Women in Construction.

It was inspiring to see teams of women come together to build four new homes in North Tulsa. We’ve uploaded a gallery of photos from the day—click the link below to check them out!
